Appreciate

It is boxing day today Since boxing day is not a day with a special name in Holland, to me it’s “the 2nd day of Christmas”….for all of you that don’t do Christmas; it is the last Sunday of the year 2010. And a beautiful day it was! a few weeks ago I had committed myself to join a Didim charity event and today that day came. A large group of Turks and foreign expats did a sponsor swim for the “Didim friends of animals association” which basically runs a dog/cat shelter here .......Then what happened?...

Just passing through?

It’s a question that has been going round my head for a couple of months now. Maybe it is because the season is over and I’m temporary jobless, maybe it’s because after six years I’d like to put back the shells that have fallen from my eyes a few years back. When I was taking a walk this afternoon with the dog, and I actually looked around me, I was shocked at the state this place is in and clueless as how to go about to actually start changing things. Being housed…

Oh the wonderful conversations I’m having lately with friends Umut & Sinan. Mostly they provide me with lovely little nuggets about Turkish culture or history that blow me away either because it is so fabulous, or it’s so incomprehensible to me. Sitting late again one night talking about all sorts of things the subject of raising children came up and how ‘we westerners’ go about this versus the Turks.
